RuPaul's Drag Race Season 17 Episode 2

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 Episode 2 Recap

The werkroom was still sticky from Episode 1’s pie-throwing madness, and yet the queens were back, buffed, and ready to battle for the crown. Episode 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 brought us the second half of the talent show, a twisted new runway theme, and one butt-clenching twist that left everyone soaked.

Here at Racer Chaser, we’re not just here to watch the race—we’re here to chase every moment. I heard there’s cake this week. Let’s dig in.

While the first batch of queens had already tap-danced and death-dropped their way through Part 1, the remaining seven now had to prove they belonged in the spotlight.

  • Lexi Love left absolutely no crumbs with her roller-skating stunt performance. It was equal parts thrilling and theatrical. She served a Vegas-worthy act that proved she’s not skating by.
  • Crystal Envy sang her heart out with an original song.
  • Hormona Lisa took a risk with stand-up comedy centered around trans identity and politics that left the room in that awkward space between reverence and “uh-oh.”

A few queens soared, a few stumbled. The show went on. Stakes got higher.

Drag Race gave us a meme-worthy, butt-obsessed runway theme inspired by the viral baking illusion trend and the eternal appeal of a great backside. Was it about cakes, or just cake?

  • Sam Star slayed the category with decadently sweet country wedding cake eleganza.
  • Acacia Forgot served fairytale realness with a (hairy) butt-baring bedspread fantasy.
  • Lana Ja’Rae stormed the stage in a green leopard corset ensemble that screamed confidence and body.
  • Crystal Envy gave us a muscled, exaggerated version of the Coppertone girl (yes, the one from the sunscreen ad).

From fondant fantasy to fully frosted fierceness, the queens delivered cake and served face.

Lexi Love and Crystal Envy were named the top two and battled it out in a high-energy lip sync to Doechii’s “Alter Ego.” Lexi turned it out with precision and personality, skating circles around the competition. Her win earned her the week’s top spot and a $5,000 tip.

Was it the bottom two who stole the show?

Hormona Lisa and Acacia Forgot faced off, with Acacia giving a tight, fiery performance. Speaking of tight, Acacia pulled out a makeup brush from an unexpected place that left the other queens gagging. She earned the win, which should have meant Hormona was going home…

…But wait. Drag Race said, “Not today, Satan. Not today.”

In a Drag Race first, Ru introduced the Badonka Dunk Tank: a dunk-tank challenge that offered a second chance. Pull the right lever and drop Michelle Visage into a tank of water. Ten levers with two chances for one opportunity to stay in the competition. Gimmick provided courtesy of Las Vegas.

Michelle got soaked.

Hormona Lisa stayed.

All the other queens groaned not just about no one going home but also about their own possible second chance suffering from shrinkage.

  • “Is It Cake?” – A wink at the internet trend of ultra-realistic cakes that look like everyday objects. Drag Race took it literally and made it booty-themed. Crass. Classic.
  • Badonka Dunk Tank – A double-pun masterpiece: “badonkadonk” for the cake, “dunk tank” for the drama.
  • Hormona’s Comedy Set – While it didn’t quite land, her focus on trans rights was a reminder of drag’s roots in protest and politics.

What did you think of Episode 2? Was Lexi Love’s skating act the moment of the night? Did Hormona Lisa deserve her second chance, or was Acacia robbed of her send-off moment? And who baked the best cake on the runway?
