RuPaul's Drag Race Season 17 Episode 13

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 Episode 13 Recap

This week, it was all about family and fake lashes. In a heartfelt twist, the queens were tasked with transforming their real-life parents into full-fledged drag daughters. With matching looks, choreography, and a whole lot of glitter, the challenge delivered laughs, tears, and some deeply touching moments.

Racer Chaser breaks down the drama, the drag, and the surprise twist on the runway.

For this makeover challenge, the queens welcomed a parent to the Werk Room and gave them a drag persona to match. They had to coordinate outfits, paint their partners for the gods, and strut the runway in character. The pairings were packed with personality:

  • Sam Star and her mom Leslie became a rhinestone-studded cowgirl duo, serving blue and gold Western glam. Their looks were familiar and fierce while being individually full of personality. Southern stars stole the show for the win.
  • Suzie Toot and her mom Susan went full vintage cartoon with black-and-white mouse-themed couture and synchronized sass. Suzie looked cuter than her mom. That’s not a bad thing.
  • Lexi Love and her mom Tammy leaned into sweetness, walking the runway in layered pink looks with matching bows. Lexi living her Victoria’s Secret fantasy is one thing. Forcing her mom to follow along…
  • Jewels Sparkles and her dad Douglas showed up in pastel fur coats. Was it fashion? No, it was Ice Climbers!
  • Onya Nurve and her dad Andre brought bright colors and bold silhouettes, but their presentation felt out of sync. Why did Onya choose a fluorescent green wig for her dad? That’s a good question!

The judges were looking for resemblance, cohesion, and charisma. This is the challenge that flummoxes many queens each season. While some queens rose to the challenge, others struggled to keep the family ties tight.

The queens hit the main stage with their drag daughters in tow.

  • Sam Star’s polished cowgirl reveal that balanced camp and couture.
  • Suzie Toot’s retro fashion-forward look was probably the most interesting take on black-and-white since Detox rocked everyone’s world.
  • Lexi Love’s unflattering sense of style was a bit difficult to watch as it claimed Lexi’s mom as a victim.
  • Jewels Sparkles’s fun concept missed some finesse. Was a reveal intended? Maybe Jewels just wanted
  • Onya Nurve’s high-impact styling didn’t quite land. She’s definitely not the fashionista of the bunch. If you look at Onya’s other looks this season, they’ve been hit or miss.

The runway was sweet, silly, and a bit emotional as families took their first walk together in drag.

After critiques, Jewels Sparkles and Onya Nurve found themselves in the bottom two. Onya in the bottom after dominating the top spot for so long felt a little unnerving. The song: “1 Thing” by Amerie, a fast-paced, drum-heavy R&B anthem that demanded both presence and personality.

Both queens gave it everything. Jewels leaned into raw emotion, while Onya powered through with high-energy choreography. RuPaul called it a draw, declaring a double shantay and keeping both queens in the race. Produced moments on this show are often painful to watch, but this one was welcome.

This week’s emotional depth hit different. Suzie Toot opened up about family struggles and growing closer to her mom through drag. Jewels Sparkles shared how nervous her dad was stepping into heels but how proud she felt seeing him do it anyway. Watching queer performers bring their families into the Werk Room was a masterclass in vulnerability, validation, and visibility.

  • “Drag Baby Mamas” – A cheeky twist on “baby mama,” reframed to celebrate drag parenthood.
  • “Nunya Bidness” – Onya’s dad’s drag name. Funny and familial. Perfection.
  • Suzie’s Mouse Couture – Cartoon drag is hard to pull off, but Suzie nailed it with head-to-toe whimsy.

Who had the fiercest drag daughter moment? Was the double shantay deserved or drama for drama’s sake? Let’s hear it:
